The Philippine Department of Tourism in New York and the Alliance of Philippine Travel Agencies, Inc. launched a Philippine Heritage Wonders program at the Philippine Fiesta 2008 this past weekend.  According to the APTA website, the partners were excited about the opportunity to raise awareness of Philippine culture.

“By forming strategic alliances we can play a vital role to brand the Philippines as a unique destination in Asia while strengthening our national identity,” said APTA executive secretary, Vid Figueras

There are 5 sites in the Philippines that are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List:  the Rice Terraces of the Cordilleras, the Historic town of Vigan; the Subterranean River National Park and the Tubbataha Reef Marine Park in Palawan; and the Baroque Churches.  APTA claims that there are 29 other sites on the Tentative List for nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
