In our experience, we have found that many small business entrepreneurs don't seek the legal advice they really need to ensure a strong foundation for their companies. Why? Often, they:

  • Don't know who to turn to for advice
  • Don't know what questions to ask
  • Think they can't afford it
  • Assume they can do it themselves with legal information pulled from the Internet

As part of our commitment to provide entrepreneurs with the legal edge they need to succeed, we have compiled several helpful resources on the various legal and non-legal issues faced by business owners. With this knowledge, business owners can then make more informed decisions about what to look for when hiring an attorney and the questions to ask once one has been hired.

  • Choosing A Legal Advisor: Provides a summary of things to look for and ask when selecting an attorney, as well as tips for controlling legal costs.
  • Online Resources: Lists links to several business publications, news outlets, financing, and other sources of interest for small business owners.
  • Lex Appeal Ezine: The FREE weekly ezine that demystifies law and legal issues for business owners, so that you can protect your company, make smart decisions, and save money. Each week, you’ll get tips and tools on which questions to ask, how to work (cost-)effectively with your advisors, and what strategies can save "solopreneurs" and small businesses thousands of dollars.
  • Articles Archive -- Advisory Guides to Business Law:  Nina has compiled an archive of her easy-to-read articles on small business legal issues -- over 75 articles in 20 categories.
  • Great Business Law Resources:  Handy program and information products on legal issues for entrepreneurs.  Want to learn how to train your clients to pay you?  How to choose and use attorneys wisely?  To get a sense of the legal health of your business?  It's all here!

The truth is, a company's legal foundation is crucially important as it directly affects the way the business operates, grows, settles disputes, secures financing, as well as a myriad of other factors. These issues are far too important to be left to chance or to be decided by someone without the proper legal training, competence, and expertise to do it right.  When companies don't get the proper legal counsel, they run the risk of costly litigation and legal fees that could have been avoided.

The time you spend handling your company's legal matters is valuable time that you could have spent growing your business!
